Hamilton Jet

HAMILTON JET

HM SERIES
The larger Hamilton Jet HM Series of waterjets are an extension of the Company’s range of smaller jet units which have evolved in the ensuing years to represent the latest technological advances in marine propulsion. As boat speeds rise above 25 knots, Hamilton Jet waterjets return higher propulsive coefficients than conventional propellers. They are therefore an ideal choice for high-speed workboats, patrol craft, fast ferries and recreational pleasure cruisers.

Hamilton Jet innovation is the result of on-going research and development utilising its on-site hydrodynamic test rig facility and test boat programmes. Close co-operation is maintained with the local university throughout these programmes. The Hamilton Jet factory is dedicated solely to the production of waterjets. All components are manufactured using the latest CNC machinery, and are produced to the world’s most stringent marine quality standards, including ABS, Lloyds and Det Norske Veritas.

The Griffon Range

The Griffon Range

Amphibious - Fast - Proven

Griffon Hovercraft Limited leads the world in the design, development, manufacture and operation of hovercraft and produces the largest range of amphibious hovercraft available in the world today.

Powered by diesel engines and built to international marine standards, Griffon hovercraft accomplish virtually any task performed by a fast boat but, being amphibious, will go where no boat can venture. Using their unique amphibious capabilities, Griffon hovercraft cruise at speeds of 25-45 knots (29-52mph or 46-83 km/hr) over deep and shallow water, land, mud, sand, ice, weed, debris, swamp, rocks and rapids. They are quiet and economical, using under half the fuel of a boat of the same speed and payload.

The smaller craft in the Griffon range are usually shipped to their overseas destination in containers, whereas the larger craft often travel as on-deck cargo.

Griffon hovercraft are in service throughout the world, from the Arctic to the Tropics. Griffon Hovercraft Limited produces more hovercraft for more applications in more countries than any other manufacturer in the world.

Military , Paramilitary Applications

Amphibious Assault

Griffon hovercraft will, in advance of taking part in any amphibious assault, also help prepare the Amphibious Operating Area through reconnaissance, the insertion and support of special forces' Advance Force Operations and the guarding/ blocking of maritime choke points on the flanks.

Reconnaissance

Griffon Hovercraft will move from offshore to the littoral and deep into the hinterland via a riverine network. They will also, over and extended and unsupported period, deploy and recover foot-borne 'recce patrols' and work with sprecial forces' sub-surface and canoe/ RIB patrols.

Fast Attack

Griffon hovercraft will lie-up on land - perhaps beneath trees or cliffs - indetected visually and amongst the shore radar clutter, and then 'pounce' on a suspect craft by taking the direct line over the beach, shallow water, mud or sandbanks.

Weapons Platform

Griffon hovercraft are much more stable weapons platforms than conventional craft, especially whilst manoeuvring. All Griffons can be fitted with protection from ballistic, nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.

Medical Evacuation

Griffon hovercraft will recover evacuees in areas impossible for conventional boats and vehicles to reach. Evacuation is amphibious, fast and effective.

Mine Counter Measures

Griffon hovercraft produce virtually no magnetic, acoustic or pressure signature and will operate over sea mines with impunity. Since the craft's air cushion and flexible skirt absorb most of an exploding mine's shock wave, they can be deployed more safely and cost-effectively as mine hunter/ killers than conventional boats.

Logistics

Griffon hovercraft deliver both troops and equipment rapidly across a beach, reagardless of the state of the tide or the nature of the surface. This enables troops and equipment to disembark safely and drychod not only onto dry land, but even more critically, inland from the exposed watergap.

Commercial Applications

Hydrographic Survey

Griffon hovercraft have carried out many hydrographic surveys, using several different techniques, along rivers, dams and coasts around the world. These craft can save significant survey time by being unconstrained by tidal consideration -the surveyors often transferrin to land survey techniques as and when required.

Seismic Survey

Seiemic surveys, mostly for oil and gas companies, have also been carried out by Griffon hovercraft worldwide - again, mostly in tidal or shallow water areas.

Search and Rescue

Many Griffon hovercraft are used where it is difficult, if not impossible, to rescue people by conventional boats or vehicles, i.e. over swamp, quicksand, flooded areas, mud-flats and thin ice. For instance, the British Royal National Lifeboat Institute currently operates six Griffon hovercraft in areas unreachable by any of its 350 lifeboats.

Passenger Ferry

Tourists travel on Griffon hovercraft simply for the experience. Commuters and shoppers use them just like boats. Authorities and environmentals like them because they produce virtually no wash./ wake at high speed.

Civil Engineering Support

Griffon hovercraft are often used on "reconnaissance missions" to survey potential engineering projects. They are then used to transport people and equipment during the subsequent construction, dredging or pipeline-laying phases - often operating from an unprepared beach or a dried-out harbour.

Airport Crash Rescue

When airports are surronded by difficult terrain, Griffon hovercraft are often the only craft capable of providing rescue services to these areas. Equipped with full firefighting and life-saving equipment, these unique amphibious high-speed craft will deal with virtually any emergency scenario.

Air Cushion Solutions

Griffon Hovercraft Limited designs and builds unique equipment, based on the air cushion principle, in order to solve many customers' particular problems. Examples include hovering crop-sprayers, hovering cricket-pitch covers, hovering reed-cutters and hover-platforms (barges) capable of carrying payloads up to 125 tonnes.

CENTALINK Silent DriveShaft

CENTALINK Silent DriveShaft

The centalink shaft consists of links which are designed for efficienct using flexible bushes for push and pull. In each link there is a cylindrical flexible bush, which is connected radially to the hub and a spheroidal flexible bush which is connected axially to the flange.

This ingenious new desing results in a very simple, highly flexible low cost and easy to assemble link coupling. There are between 3 and 8 links per joint depending on the shaft size.

The rubber joints of the centalink shaft are based on well proven, well dimensioned rubber bushes or spherical joint, where the rubber is vulcanized to the inner and outer metal part and is under high precompression. Such couplings have been well proven in similar application, e.g. couplings for highspeed trains.

All movements of the joints are absorbed flexibly bu the rubber bushes – without relative movement of the metal – and therefore free of wear.

Centalink joints offer the following outstanding advantages

  •   Compensation for considerable axial, radial and angular misalignment.
  •   With very low reacting forces, and linear characteristics.
  •   Constant velocity transmission, angular deflection of the two joints may be   different.
  •   Silent operation, transmitted noise reduced. The transmission of noise is   interrupted in four places   by rubber   bushes.
  •   Free backlash, torsionally stiff. The single joints are also radially stiff.
  •   Free of maintenance, free or wear, with fail-safe-feature.
  •   Radially exchangeable without disturbing connected machinery.
  •   Easy visual check of the condition of the rubber bushes, easy and fast   exchange of the links is   possible without   special tools.
  •   Long shaft distances can be spanned.
  •   Combinations with torsionally flexible CENTAX-elements allow optimal tuning   of the torsional   situation.
  •   The design is protected by international patent applications.

Important areas of application: Ship main and auxillary drives, between engine and gear and between gear and jet-drive, propeller, generator, hydraulic pump, waterpump etc.

Drive for rail cars between engine and gear or between gear and axle.

Windturbines, cooling towers, fan drives, mills, glazing rollers, steel mills. General construction and machine industry and heavy engineering.

Balancing

The common balancing quality fo U-joint-shafts is Q16 according VDI 2060, if not agreed differently, the CENTALINK-shafts are balanced as follows:

  •   flanges, flangehubs and innerpart to quality Q6,3
  •   the links to quality Q16.

The links to CENTALINK sizes 48-50-55-60-65-68 and 71 are available in 2 different materials:

  •   speroidal cast iron
  •   forged aluminium alloy

The links of all other common CENTALINK sizes consists of spheroidal cast iron GGG 50 only.

Depending on the material of the links the following balancing methods are used.

The aluminium links are weighed and brought to the same weight within a close tolerance. Thus they will be a set within the unbalance tolerance. They can therefore be mounted and exchanged as required.

The links of spheroidal cast iron GGG 50 are balanced on relevant fixtures as a set and marked with numbers. Therefore this set always has to stay together and has to be mounted in the same order as numbers indicate.
